A BIT OF HIGHLAND GAME HISTORY

Highland Games, now a celebration of Scottish culture, have roots dating back to the early Celtic culture of Scotland, possibly as far back as the 11th century or even earlier. "Some believe that the Highland games date back to 2000 BC in Ireland and  that they crossed the water to Scotland with the fourth and fifth  century migrations of the Scotti into Dalriada (Argyll) and beyond."

These games initially served as a way to test and train warriors, with contests of strength, agility, and speed. Over time, they evolved into organized events, incorporating music, dance, & other cultural aspects. "Today, the games remain a stirring celebration of Scottish identity and  cultural pride which have endured through centuries of political turmoil  and upheaval."
